Joy to the Weald | Christmas 2021

Friends and neighbours were joined by Huntingdon Male Voice choir and Santa, his sleigh and helpers from the Rotary Club of Huntingdon at Alconbury Weald’s annual Christmas celebration.

This year’s festivities took place around the Christmas tree on Watch Office Green, with Bohemia restaurant and bar providing hot drinks and festive goodies from the historic Watch Office.  After carols around the tree, the community was invited to enjoy a festive concert in the warmth of the Club, with Huntingdon Male Voice Choir singing traditional carols as well as some of their own compositions.

Natalie Leigh-Brown, Community Development Lead for Alconbury Weald, said: “Our Christmas carols around the tree are always really special and a personal highlight in the community events calendar. It’s wonderful to watch everyone joining in with the carols and having Huntingdon Male Voice Choir with us this year was a real treat. It was also lovely to be able to continue the festivities inside and listen to the concert while thawing out in The Hall.”

In addition to the carols and concert, Friends of Ermine Street Church Academy organised a wreath making workshop in partnership with MM Flowers, a business based at Alconbury Weald Enterprise Campus. MMUK florists helped at the workshop, with some beautifully crafted Christmas wreaths now adorning local homes.

Organised by a resident family, who has North Pole connections, Santa could be seen cycling around Alconbury Weald last weekend with his trusty elves, giving out sweets and spreading Christmas cheer. The reindeers were resting up, so they’ll be raring to go on Christmas Eve! But Santa was able to make use a cargo bike from the Alconbury Weald bike hire scheme for the occasion, courtesy of Smarter Journeys.
