Home is where the heart is – retired couple reunited with their daughter at Huntingdon development

A retired couple moved into a tailored house at a Huntingdon development to be closer to their family.

Renée and Robert Stubbs moved into Redrow’s Alconbury Weald in July this year, just a stone’s throw away from their youngest daughter’s house, who already lives on another part of the development.

Renée and Robert discovered Alconbury Weald when they first visited their daughter, who moved to a different part of the development last year. Beyond the large green spaces and well-established community feel that the area provides, the Redrow homes appealed to the couple due to their quality and elegant designs. The possibility of choosing entirely bespoke interiors that perfectly suited their needs sealed the deal, leading them to opt for the three-bedroom semi-detached Ludlow.

Originally from Manchester, the couple had previously owned a number of homes across the country, including several new builds, and also lived in the French region of Dordogne for a few years. Having brought up a large family, Renée, a former lecturer, and Robert, a renowned Tudor dollhouse maker, decided to downsize and settle in at Alconbury Weald.

Renée commented: “We’ve owned many homes in our lifetime, both old and new. Buying a brand new property was crucial for us this time, as it meant no hidden renovation costs, and we knew what we were getting straight away.

“We completely fell in love with Alconbury Weald when visiting our daughter, but Redrow really took the crown compared to the other housebuilders on site.

“The Redrow homes we visited were spacious and thoughtfully made. The Ludlow was the perfect choice for us – it is just the right size, and it has everything we were looking for.”

Perfect for smaller families or couples looking to downsize, the beautifully balanced three-bedroom Ludlow combines character and elegance with practical living spaces. The master bedroom benefits from a stylish ensuite bathroom, and there is also plenty of space to accommodate a modern family’s needs, including a separate laundry room and downstairs cloakroom.

Being part of the Heritage collection, the Ludlow had the option for bespoke interiors and finishing touches, as Renée explains: “We have specific needs, and the Redrow team couldn’t have been more understanding. The support we have received right from the start, and throughout the whole process, has been nothing short of outstanding.”

Renée concludes: “We love our new home, and are thrilled to be living at Alconbury Weald. The development is like its own little town, with lots of green spaces, and it has a real community feel already. With our daughter living just a short stroll away, we’re also able to pop over for tea whenever we like – we couldn’t be happier.”
