Night-time road closures during weekdays from Thursday, 18 September 2025

Work to connect the Southern Gateway of Alconbury Weald to the A141 to support the new homes and facilities coming forward in the second phase of the development (formerly Grange Farm) and Prestley country park will take place this autumn.

The work to connect Alconbury Weald’s southern link road into the A141 (just south of the railway bridge) will take up to 10 weeks from Thursday, 18 September and will require weekday night closures at Spittals Way from 8pm to 6am, Monday-Friday.

The work, which is being undertaken by Breheny, will include the installation of the new
carriageway with footpaths and cycleways and streetlights, as well as services to support the new homes.  This work is due to be completed by the end of November, with the spur into the development opening when the first houses in Phase 2 are delivered.

“This work marks an important milestone for the project, as the completion of the Southern Gateway will provide access to the new homes and country park coming forward in Phase 2 of Alconbury Weald. In time it will connect the main route through the whole of the development.

“We have been able to carry out most of the infrastructure works to date with minimal impact to the A141. To do this last connection effectively and safely, however, will require night closures. We apologise for any inconvenience to residents and road users during this time, and will keep people posted on progress during the works.”

Paul Murfin - Communications and Partnerships Manager for Alconbury Weald master developer Urban&Civic

During these nighttime closures, a diversion route has been agreed with the County Council, which will help minimise disruption to surrounding villages particularly from large vehicles and HGVs. For local journeys, all other roads will be unaffected.

In time, the southern link road will connect to The Boulevard and form the primary spine route through Alconbury Weald for cars, buses, cyclists and pedestrians: running from the current Ermine Street entrance, through the first phase and north of the runway (the future Runway Park), then through the centre of the development, before coming through the former Grange Farm area to connect to the A141.

The southern part of the road will be delivered over the next 18 months, enabling access to the homes in phase two of Alconbury Weald. The central section will be completed as part of works to bring forward the central hub of the development.

Breheny’s emergency traffic management telephone number is 01449 745755.
