Despite a rainy start, residents and visitors braved the weather to celebrate the start of the festive season at Alconbury Weald’s Christmas Market.

As well as a chance to stock up on unique gifts and decorations, and enjoy delicious pizza, mulled wine and hot drinks to keep the cold at bay, children from Ermine Street Church Academy choir set the festive mood by singing carols and seasonal songs.

Alconbury Weald Community Association arranged a fantastic selection of stalls again this year offering festive gifts, handmade crafts and tempting seasonal treats. From wooden, clay and stained-glass crafts and decorations to toys, bath and shower products, sweets, cakes and bakes, local spirits, beer and mulled wine, there really was something special for everyone.

Santa’s Grotto - a first for Alconbury Weald - was also a hit!  Santa was fully booked in advance, bringing joy and gifts - donated by Enterprise Campus neighbour John Adams - to 40 families, with 64 children receiving presents. Santa also made time for a quick visit from Ben Obese-Jecty MP.

During the Market, families also headed over to The Pavilion to enjoy a Fun Dance session as part of The Library Presents programme. Mother and daughter duo, Celestina and India, took little ones on an enchanting journey where rhythm, movement and spoken word converged.

Huntingdonshire MP Ben Obese-Jecty popped in to see Santa and his elves, sampled a Christmas flavoured pizza from Pizza Mondo and stocked up on some festive goodies.

“Our Christmas Market goes from strength to strength each year and is a highlight of the community calendar.  I’d like to thank everyone who braved the weather and came along to stock up on goodies for Christmas. There was a real buzz around The Glade plaza and it was a magical way to start the festive season.”

As part of its countdown to Christmas, the Community Association has also organised an Advent Windows Trail to add some festive sparkle to Alconbury Weald. Each day from 1 to 24 December, a new window - beautifully decorated by residents - will be revealed to celebrate the countdown to Christmas. Explore Alconbury Weald to find the windows on an advent calendar of epic proportions.
