Magpas Bike Donation

As part of a wider drive to support organisations across Alconbury Weald Enterprise Campus to travel more sustainably, master developer Urban&Civic has teamed up with travel planners smart journeys and Huntingdon-based TAG Bikes. Together, they have been donating refurbished bikes for staff to use during their breaks. The latest donation was recently presented to Magpas Air Ambulance.

TAG Bikes, run by Employment Skills Worker Robert Bierton as part of Cambridgeshire County Council’s Supporting into Work programme, helps adults with learning disabilities and special educational needs learn how to become bicycle mechanics. The programme includes training on how to service, repair and refurbish second-hand bikes and helps learners develop a wide range of employability and life skills whilst improving their levels of independence and confidence.

With funding provided by Urban&Civic, smart journeys, the sustainable travel planning team hosted by Cambridgeshire County Council, has been working with TAG to make their refurbished bikes available for Campus workers to explore the development and local area sustainably.

“We are absolutely delighted with the two new bikes. It means that colleagues will be able to cycle to the Co-op as well as explore the green spaces and parks throughout the development during breaks. This will make a huge difference not only to getting about, but to their physical and mental health.”

As well as offering regular bike servicing for any of the 2,500 people working in Alconbury Weald Enterprise Campus, in the last 12 months Urban&Civic has bought 15 TAG bikes for staff at the Enterprise Campus to use throughout their working day.

“We are so pleased the partnership with smart journeys and TAG Bikes continues to bring benefits to so many people in this innovative scheme. The initiative plays an important role in helping the workforce at Alconbury Weald Enterprise Campus get about in a sustainable and healthy way and it’s great to bring that support to the incredible and dedicated staff at Magpas Air Ambulance.”
