App Bikes arrive at Alconbury Weald

Alconbury Weald has an extensive network of pathways providing off-road access to community facilities, amenities, parks and play areas within the development, and connecting to footpaths and cycleways in the wider area. To help residents and visitors get about and explore the development and local area sustainably, master developer Urban&Civic has introduced App Bikes to Alconbury Weald.
The App Bikes - six standard and two e-bikes - are located outside the Co-op, and at Swynford Park and Crescent Park. Urban&Civic is subsidising the first 30 minutes, after which they cost £1.50 per hour to hire. The bikes can be taken anywhere but need to be returned to one of the locations above. Further locations and additional bikes will be made available as the development grows.
“Cycling is a fun activity - by yourself or with friends and family - and is a great way to explore Alconbury Weald and the local area. As well as an effective means of transport, it’s a great way to improve fitness, boost wellbeing and enjoy time outside in the fresh air.
“The App Bikes are the latest in a series of incentives and initiatives to help Alconbury Weald residents make more active travel choices, and they are a great way to give cycling a go and try out e-bikes if you are thinking about investing in your own bicycle.”

smart journeys, the Sustainable Travel Planning Team hosted by Cambridgeshire County Council, is helping to give Alconbury Weald residents, Campus workers and visitors reliable, accessible and affordable active and sustainable travel options so they leave their cars at home. In addition to App Bikes to encourage cycling, smart journeys provide 1-2-1 cycle training, learn to ride sessions, bike servicing and bike maintenance training.
